Get to Know Audrey “Pat” McGhee – 2013 TBFW Featured Designer

In Designers, Events, Fashion, Updates on September 3, 2013 at 8:08 am

Audrey “Pat” McGhee is a returning Tampa Bay Fashion Week designer, with over 20 years of experience in the fashion industry. As a former model, retail manager, and make-over consultant (just to name a few professions), this designer definitely knows how to put on a great show! Pat knows how difficult it can be for plus-sized women to find fabulous clothing with a great fit, and has designed her Audrey Pat collection to cater to women sizes 6-24. Over the years Pat has also dedicated her time to volunteer work within her community and is currently an active member of the AIDS Services Association of Pinellas, Inc. and Without Walls International Church.

  1. What does Fashion mean to you? Fashion is in the eye of the beholder.  It is the ability to view another person’s creative talent and appreciate the work and love involved in their creation.
  2. What do you hope to bring to Tampa Bay’s Fashion scene? I would like for the crowd to take back from my showcase a wonderful experience.
  3. What matters to you most as a designer? That I always put 100% into what I do for the very best results.
  4. What makes your line unique? It’s bold colors and fabric textures. A mixture of simplicity with an edge.
  5. You’ve been featured in our event since 2008, what do you like best about Tampa Bay Fashion Week and how do you feel about showcasing in front of the Tampa Bay crowd?  It’s been a blessing to be able to showcase for six years. The Tampa Bay Fashion Week team is amazing and awesome to work with.  They allow me the flexibility to be me, and you don’t always find that everywhere. I feel excited and I can’t wait to showcase my new collection!

A Bright Night for Fashion

In Designers, Events, Fashion, Trends, Updates on June 17, 2013 at 2:18 am

The secret’s out! For weeks we teased you guys with our top secret Bright Nights party… Up until last Friday night our lips were sealed on the exact location and details of our fashion rave. Well, now we’re here to fill you in on all the details about how we lit up the night!

Seeing as this was a secret underground party, it only felt right to keep it literally underground. The Basement Gallery, located in downtown St. Petersburg, was the perfect venue. Owners Nicki and Sam have created an ideal space for a party like this. The Basement Gallery is just that… a basement. It’s raw, edgy vibe was exactly what we imagined for our fashion rave.

The attire was anything bright. There was no shortage of neons and boldly colored prints! Party guests definitely did not disappoint! Once guests arrived they were directed downstairs, where they were greeted with a variety of glowing bracelets. Attendees included fashion designers from previous seasons, plus those who will be announced soon, as well as models, boutique owners, media and more! There was plenty of entertainment for all who attended. Live deejay, Haven Industries, got the party started, a photo booth courtesy of Shutterbooth Open equipped with props, sweet treats from Visual Delights, a live performance by local band Death Starsky and our fab house photographer, Anne’ Phillips. Our party guests danced and chatted the night away, all while munching on their favorite candies from the candy bar and sipping on complimentary wine. Dee-lish!

We would like to thank all of our amazing guests for attending and making the night such a success! If you weren’t able to make it to our Bright Nights party, there is no need to fret. More fun is on its way this September! Just be sure to stay tuned to our Website, Facebook, and Twitter for all of the latest updates!

People’s Choice Awards 2013: The Good & The Bad

In Events, Fashion, Trends, Updates on January 11, 2013 at 10:21 am

After the bustle of the holidays, everyone is winding down except for our friends on the West Coast. January marks not only the beginning of a New Year but also the start of AWARD SEASON! That’s right, it’s that time again where we see our beloved celebrity idols and crushes either make it or break it on the red carpet. Nothing is better than having your closest friends over, while cracking a few bottles of wine and dishing on this season’s hottest looks as they grace our televisions. The award show to always kick off award season is the “People’s Choice Awards” which aired last night. This is one of the more low key award shows, however, it is one of the most fun red carpets to watch! The reason for this is that the setting isn’t extremely formal like the Academy Awards and/or terribly casual like the “Teen Choice Awards.” It’s a happy medium, which makes the fashion insanely interesting. This is when celebrities get a chance to truly express themselves in what they wear, and their looks can either range from casual chic to elegant glamour. Another reason why I’m drawn to the “People’s Choice Awards” show is that it draws talent from all areas; movies, TV and music. It’s rare that you get all three categories in one show. Let’s take a look at this year’s hit and misses of the 2013 “Peoples Choice Awards.”

PCA13 1

Kaley Cuoco was once again this year’s host for the 2nd time in a row and is seen here wearing a fair pink Christian Siriano Dress, Giuseppe Zanotti shoes, and Dana Reecca Designs Jewelry. I’m not crazy about this look, and I think it’s too “cute-sy.” What do you think?

Taylor Swift shocked all of us this year and looks absolutely stunning in this stark white Ralph Lauren gown, complete with dangling turquoise earrings. The 23 year old newly single songstress sure can rock the camera! She is definitely my pick for ‘Best Dressed’ at this year's “People’s Choice Awards.”

Lea Michele is seen here in a shockingly bright pink, fun, and flirty mini dress, completely embellished by Ellie Saab. I applaud Michele for making such a drastic choice as this creation also has sheer cutouts from front to back. On glee this season we are noticing how major of a body Michele has, and golf claps to her for showing it off! This isn’t my favorite look of the night, but this just shows you how diverse the “Peoples Choice Awards” can get.

Ashley Rickards looks sophisticated and mature in this stunning Aidan Mattox gown. The color is a neutral and really makes her gorgeous chocolate brown hair pop. The detail in that triangular beading is sick...which is a good thing :)

Julianne Hough made sure everyone noticed her tonight as she frocked down the red carpet in this amazing Tony Ward Couture cocktail dress. The adorable closed toe shoes are none other than Guiseppe Zanotti and the short hair is definitely working in her favor. It’s nice to see Hough in a more covered up dress, as it’s a change up from her normal flesh flashing costumes on “Dancing with the Stars”.

Naomi Watts amped up the game tonight as she appeared bold and flawless. An Alexander McQueen Resort ’13 gown is a unique number, however it works for her. With that sexy open back, it’s no wonder that this star has lots of things to smile about.

While some starlets have made incredible feats in the fashion category last night…others didn’t exactly. Take a look at some of the stars who should’ve also let the people choose what they were going to wear.

Jennifer Aniston has finally done it. After always looking beyond incredible in her perfect glowing skin and killer body...the hollywood veteran has finally made a fashion DISASTER. Everything is wrong with this look from Christian Dior. It appears she is ready to play the rom-com version of “Gladiator”. Sorry Jen, maybe next year.

Heidi Klum is generally associated as a fashion icon with her impeccable looks and vast experience as a model. However, even though she has a rockin’ body, she has missed the mark for me on last night’s dress. This Julien McDonald gown has me thinking Princess Leia slave couture...anyone else get that vibe?

Paris Hilton is known for lots of things, and now the most recent will be her winning my “Worst Dressed” title for this years “People’s Choice Awards”. This scantily clad dress is all sorts of wrong, while the shoes don’t help. Sorry Paris, but...nice try.

Eddie Redmayne is pulling off a rugged yet polished look in this tartan print suit, completed with all the right accessories, including the black vest. Congratulations Redmayne, you’re this years “Best Dressed Male”!

Well, we have taken only a glimpse into the good and the bad when it came to fashion at this year’s “People’s Choice Awards.” It’s a new year and award season 2013 is well underway. Next up is the “Golden Globe Awards” which takes place on January 13th. A whole new breed of glamour and glitz awaits and I can’t wait to share with you all that Hollywood has to offer once again!

There was Fencing, Feathers and More!

In Designers, Events, Fashion, Trends, Updates on October 4, 2012 at 9:25 am

The big show for Tampa Bay Fashion Week 2012 turned out to be a fashion extravaganza, the likes of which I have never seen!  From a fencing-inspired collection to corsets and feathers, creativity was certainly at its finest.

Who doesn’t love a girl who knows how to hold a sword?  Inspired by the age old sport of fencing, House of Donshey presented a fabulous collection filled with sexy corsets and dazzling accessories.

In the spirit of corsets, feathers and everything fabulous, Wicked Betty also presented a delightfully sinful collection.

Between House of Donshey and Wicked Betty,  there was a plethora of fantasy, sparkle and  sex appeal.  Who doesn’t love that?

IMAGINE…

In Events, Fashion, Updates on May 10, 2012 at 9:36 am

Every great fashion designer in the world has been trained by great professionals.

As a former student of the International Academy of Design & Technology–Tampa, I know that this institution offers just that: Great Professionals. As students perfect their skills in various aspects of fashion design, they are given the incredible opportunity of showcasing their own brilliant ideas in the annual IMAGINE fashion show. A spot in most big runway events would normally cost a design house a minimum of $50,000. For the IMAGINE fashion show, creativity is the only requirement for a designer to experience the pride and glamour of participation in a big runway show.

This year’s show will be held on Saturday, May 19th at the Mainsail Conference Center in Tampa. A VIP pre-party will begin at 6 p.m., followed by the extravagant runway show. Miss St. Petersburg USA 2013, Collins Medlin, will serve as the event emcee. Following a theme surrounding the uncertainty of the Mayan calendar and 2012, 44 students will present approximately 200 incredible designs ranging from beachwear to bridal.

With a plethora of exciting fashion, beautiful models and intriguing themes, the 27th annual IMAGINE fashion show presented by IADT is one event that must not be missed!

Swanky Soiree on the Fashion Week Calendar

In Designers, Events, Fashion, Trends, Updates on September 21, 2011 at 1:24 pm

Swanky Soiree 2011 is an official event of Fashion Week Tampa Bay, and their name truly does say it all – it will be another Swanky Soiree!

Amazing restaurants, chefs and vendors are all part of this year’s event as well as fashion designer, Alla-K and fine artist, Don Kobasky. And while you are having a dream night at the soiree, you will be happy knowing that proceeds are going to help Brookwood Florida, a licensed therapeutic group home for adolescent girls.

There simply is nothing we like better than an evening filled with fine fashion, fine art, fine dining and fine friends – and knowing that proceeds of that evening are going to benefit a very worthwhile and much deserving organization like Brookwood Florida.

Follow this event up by attending the after party at Push Ultra Lounge, and then, of course, Fashion Week Tampa Bay’s runway show (9/23)  – a perfect start to another perfect weekend in Florida paradise.

See you there!

WWOTB Makes Business Networking Fun

In Events, Trends, Updates on September 21, 2011 at 11:09 am

Like thousands of women throughout the Greater Tampa Bay area, I look forward to receiving invitations and emails to see what fun event is planned next with Working Women of Tampa Bay. Tampa Bay Fashion Week is all about fun, too, which makes Working Women of Tampa Bay a great sponsor and fit for our event!

Networking comes naturally to me – as I know it does to many women. I love sharing tips and tricks for everything from fitness to cosmetics to fun events to fashion with my long-time girlfriends and the new ones I meet daily. I know the events hosted by Working Women of Tampa Bay are sure to be fun times connecting with friends while meeting at that month’s locale – and I know I always go home with names and numbers of new friends as well as an exciting goody bag.

When I attend a WWOTB monthly mixer, I am always certain I will enjoy a great night out and make connections that, in addition, to being personal connections have also many times turned into great business relationships. I personally love doing business with people I know, like and trust, and thanks to WWOTB, I have added many new girlfriends to that group.

Fashion Week Tampa Bay and Working Women of Tampa Bay sounds like the perfect partnership to me – a fun, fabulous event with a fun, fabulous sponsor. I’m looking forward to seeing WWOTB at this year’s event along with many of my WWOTB friends.
