From Punk To Funk

In Designers, Events, Fashion, Updates on October 21, 2010 at 6:30 pm

There’s no question about it. The girl keeps doing her thang! Fashion Week Tampa Bay 2010 was just a month ago and Nina Verklas is showing in another Fashion Week. Nina will be presenting an exclusive showcase, “Rockin’ Retreat,” in Funksion Fashion Week Miami Beach.

Funksion Fashion Week Miami Beach is Wednesday, October 20 through Sunday, October 24th. Nina will be competing with other fashion designers in the Emerging Designers Competition. The competition will be at the Bass Museum Fashion Venue on Thursday, October 21st. Doors will open at 5pm and the fashion show starts at 6pm. Don’t be too fashionably late ladies and gents!

Nina Verklas has been selected as a featured designer for Fashion Week Tampa Bay for three years in a row. Her Bambina by NV Resort 2011 Collection was shown this year. I love this rockstar inspired collection! The collection was very punk rock, gothic/dark expanse and trendy with leather, chains and studs. She brought the punk and here comes the funk. We wish you the best! Knock ’em dead girl!

Experience the Couture Movement: Essence Flowers

In Designers on September 6, 2010 at 6:15 pm

How do you introduce a designer who needs no introduction due to all of her success in fashion? Let’s see… Ladies and GentlemanBoys and Girls… I present to you… the incredible and magnificent, Essence Flowers!

Fashion designer, Essence Flowers has put an amazing show on year after year at Fashion Week Tampa Bay. She creates magnificent pieces of art and luckily for us, these pieces of artwork aren’t plastered to a wall. They are wearable, touchable, irresistible and fashion-live-feel-loveable… the list goes on and on. She designs gorgeous couture gowns that are artistic and classy with a hint of sex appeal. In addition to the following: wedding dresses, formal wear, swim suits and accessories.  Parisian and Italian runways wouldn’t be able to ignore her breathtaking high fashion style! I truly feel like a fat kid with cake looking at her gowns. I fall in love with one piece and instantaneously want seconds!

After graduating from Tampa’s International Academy of Design and Technology, Essence has been very successful with pursing her passion for fashion career. She’s a consultant in Tampa, a buyer in St. Petersburg, a Pre-Fashion Week participant in New York City and a force behind an up and coming label in Atlanta. This talented couture designer has created magnificent pieces of art that have inspired cultures, communities, fashion lovers and critics. Her remarkable designs have been in local charity shows, fashion shows and lavish red carpet events. Fabulous celebrities have worn her clothes including the Tampa Bay Buccaneer Cheerleaders. Essence designed the cheerleaders’ bathing suits for the 2010 Buccaneer Cheerleader calendar – each month contains a spirited girl looking fashionably sexy worthy of any swimsuit calendar! Congrats Essence on doing such a great job!

This will be Essence Flowers’ third year with Fashion Week Tampa Bay. Fashion is definitely her calling! Everyone including the casual eye along the runway will see this young talent’s artistic brilliance and experience the couture movement that is Essence Flowers.

Handmade Hendrix

We welcome fashion designer, Kimberly Hendrix to our Fashion Week Tampa Bay 2010 runway!

Over the past few years, Kimberly has used her skills from being an interior designer, vintage collector and seamstress into becoming a talented fashion designer. She has participated in many fashion events like GenArt and Nolcha and has also co-designed a full runway collection for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Fall 2008. Kimberly has even appeared as herself on the TLC reality show: bikini or bust, where she helped her friend and designer, Ashley Paige create a 28 look collection for Mercedes-Benz in just two weeks! Recently she tried returning to the television screen by applying for Project Runway season 8. However, after becoming a finalist then being denied on the fashion design reality show – she decided to put together her own project! Starting July 29th she’ll go head-to-head with Project Runway season 8 by taking on each challenge, record her design process then post her results in her video blog for fans to compare and vote on the show’s challenge winner or Kimberly.

She will be showing her Spring 2011 collection this September in Fashion Week Tampa Bay 2010. According to Kimberly, it will be her most complete and stunning collection to date. I’m getting super anxious and can’t wait to see what she will bring to our 2010 runway! If it’s anything like her previous collections, everyone will be drooling! Whether it’s a ready-to-wear or couture collection, each of her creations are handmade and one-of-a-kind, as it should be. Each creation features intricate beading, embroidery, incredible detailing, raw edges and more fabulous features that will make any fashionista weak to her knees! On her blog “Keeping up with K. Hendrix”, she shares some of the inspirations behind her spring 2011 collection: vintage Paris, ballet, and a touch of circus.
